What is EDIS for the Container Industry

EDIS stands for Equipment Damage and Inspection System.
It is a standardized set of codes developed by the Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL) to record and report container damages in a clear and consistent way. These codes are mainly used in damage surveys, repair estimates, and container interchange between shipping lines, depots, and leasing companies.

What is CEDEX for the Container Industry

CEDEX stands for Container Equipment Data Exchange.
It is a set of standardized codes and definitions developed by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). CEDEX provides a global language for container equipment data, ensuring compatibility across different software systems, depots, and shipping lines.

IICL PREFERRED CODES

In the container industry, the ISO Cedex coding system contains a wide range of entries, some of which are overlapping, conflicting, or unnecessarily repeated. This can create confusion and reduce the effectiveness of code usage across different operators and stakeholders. To overcome these challenges, the use of “IICL Preferred” codes is encouraged. These standardized codes provide a clearer, more consistent framework that allows all parties whether shipping lines, depots, surveyors, or leasing companies to work with the same references. In doing so, the industry can maximize the advantages of accuracy, efficiency, and uniformity, ultimately reducing errors and improving communication within global container operations.
