The Institute of International Container Lessors

The Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL) is non governmental organization that represents container leasing companies all around the world, and IICL is the industry’s main leading trade association of the container and chassis leasing. On behalf of its members the IICL is involved in governmental, regulatory, customs, tax, educational, technological, and environmental issues. IICL active with International Maritime Organization (IMO), Organization for Standardization (ISO), World Customs Organization (WCO), the UN conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

Institute of International Container Lessors

It was founded in 1971, the IICL is a Delaware (USA) corporation, with the goal of promoting and developing the use of containers as an efficient and safe ways to ship goods around the world.

Key functions and activities of the Institute of International Container Lessors

  1. Standardization – Establishing and upholding standards for container specifications, maintenance, and repair in order to ensure that containers comply with international requirements.
  2. Research and Education – Conducting research on container-related issues and offering educational tools to its members and the industry.
  3. Networking and Collaboration – Promoting networking and collaboration among container leasing companies, shipping lines, and other industry stakeholders.
  4. Industry Advocacy – Representing the interests of container leasing firms in interactions with governments, international organizations, and other relevant authorities.
  5. Best Practices – To improve efficiency and safety, we promote best practices in container leasing, operations, and management.
  6. Sustainability – Promoting eco-friendly methods in container business and backing projects for sustainability and recycling containers.
